Ms. Marva Rebecca Belcher

Mrs. Marva Rebecca Belcher departed this life Friday, April 9, 2021, at Ballad Bristol Regional Medical Center.

On June 22, 1939, she was born to the late Hugh Byrd and Helen Shazier in Marion, VA. Rebecca lived a life of servitude for her family, friends, and, most importantly, the Lord. She was a devoted wife, dedicated mother, spunky mamaw, loving mother of her home church.

Rebecca was known for her fried chicken, love for sweets, and a cold diet Pepsi, her love of flowers, and the love she had for her family.

Rebecca graduated from Carnegie High School in Marion, VA. Afterward, she met and fell in love with her husband, Charles Wellington Belcher. She moved to New York City, where she raised 14 children, but in 1975 they returned to her hometown Chilhowie, VA.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Hugh Byrd and Helen Shazier; husband, Charles W. Belcher; sister, Rachel Vinson; brother, Harry Lee Shazier; daughter, Charlene Harris; and sons, Gregory and Dennis Belcher.

She is survived by her 11 children, Donna B. Cato (Larry), Stephen L. Belcher (Juanita), Sherry L. Belcher, Marcella C. Foster (Spurgeon Jr.), Vivian L. Polk (Dennis), Wanda M. Belcher (Joshua), Cheryl D. Belcher, Lisa S. Belcher, Vanetta K. Edwardson, Michelle L. Carter (Rev. Dr. Kenneth), and Pamela Belcher; brother, Franklin Shazier; 29 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins, and a host of friends.

Services for Mrs. Marva Belcher will be conducted on Friday, April 16, 2021, at 3 pm from The Chilhowie Park, Chilhowie, VA. The family will receive friends from 2 pm until the hour of service. Burial will follow at the Chilhowie Cemetery.
