Ms. Ada P. Smith


Ada Patricia "Pat" Smith Black was born on June 22, 1942, in Bristol, Virginia, to the late Peyton Y. and Ada B. Montgomery Smith. Pat departed this world on Thursday, November 25, 2021, and is resting in the arms of the Lord. She is loved and truly missed.


Pat was married to the late James Willie Black, and they had a son and daughter who preceded them in death. In addition, she is preceded in death by two sisters, Lillie "Penny" (Lowell) Brown and Pamela Martin (Isaac) Pope; and two brothers, Peyton (Barbara) Smith and Alford (Callie) Smith.


Before moving to Detroit, Michigan, Pat graduated from Douglass High school, where she had several jobs, including accountant and interior decorator prior to retirement. After retirement, she moved back to Bristol and was an active member of New Hope Baptist Church until her health failed her.


Pat had a passion for cooking and sharing her recipes with the younger members of the family. She also loved decorating for Christmas and listening to Aretha Franklin's music.


Pat is survived by one sister, Barbara S. (Martin) Beidleman; one brother, John H. (Barbara) Smith. She also leaves numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends to cherish her memory.


A celebration of life service will be conducted on Sunday, November 28, 2021, at 3 pm from New Hope Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 2 pm until the hour of service.
