Mrs. Selina B. Hairston

Selina Bethsheba Woods Hairston, born June 8, 1953, in Montgomery, WV, transitioned into eternal rest on October 5, 2021, in Bristol, TN.

She graduated from East Bank High School and Cosmetology School in 1971. She worked as a beautician and as a draftsman at Poolman-Swindell. She was well known in Montgomery as the beautician “Boots”.

She was raised in the church and received the Holy Ghost in her apartment in 1979. She joined Glorious Liberty Apostolic Church where she met Joe A. Hairston, Jr. They married on July 26, 1980, and remained together for 41 years. To their union, they have four sons.

She answered her call into ministry after years of preaching from the pews. She served in the West Virginia and East Tennessee council for many years and served 2 terms as the Women’s Auxiliary president. She served beside her husband at the Bride of Christ Church in Rand, WV, and then at Ever Flowing Well Church in Bristol, TN. She played the piano, led praise and worship, waved her flags, started a sign language ministry, taught Sunday School, and preached as an Evangelist.

She loved children and worked as the director of a daycare center for many years. She loved her family and often spoke of the influences of her mother, Nell Woods, and her aunt, Thelma Nance. She loved poetry was inducted into the International Poets Society. She wrote the poem “Another Room” to comfort the saints of God. She also loved cooking and blessed many of our souls with her sweet potato pie and her peach cobbler. In all she did, she led with love for people and love for God.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Ervin Lee and Nell E. Woods, as well as five brothers and two sisters.

She is survived by her husband, Joe A. Hairston, Jr.; four sons and daughters in love, Joe (Tosha) Hairston III, Patrick (Shannon), Jonathan (Brittanie), and James (Tameka); 11 grandchildren, Carmen, Gamiah, Christopher, Jon Jon, Malachi, Alexander, Ayden, Jaden, Noah, Cadence, and A’Larica; two sisters, Thelma Hughes and Pat Madison; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Services for Mrs. Selina Hairston will be conducted Monday, October 11, 2021 at 12 pm from Lee St. Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 11 am until the hour of service. Interment will follow at Eastern Heights Cemetery Bristol, TN. CDC recommendations for masks and social distancing will be followed.
