Mr. Eddie Lee "JJ" Jones


Eddie Lee “JJ” Jones of Greeneville, TN entered heavenly peace on Monday, November 9, 2020, after a brief illness while in the care of Life Care Center of Greeneville, TN. He was born in Rhoda, VA on September 26, 1947, to the late Nathan Jones and Mrs. Icey B. Jones.

Eddie spent his early life in Rhoda before moving with his family to Kingsport, TN. Eddie graduated from Douglass High School, Kingsport, TN in 1965. While at Douglass, he played on the Tigers basketball team. He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church where he was baptized as a child. Following his graduation, he joined the U.S. Air Force where he proudly served his country from 1965-1969. Following an honorable discharge from the Air Force, he was employed by Flour Construction Company and the Kingsport Paper Mill. After living and working in Kingsport, he made his home in Greeneville, TN.

He was preceded in death by his father, Nathan Jones; brothers, Nathan Lee Jones and Steve Jones; and his sister, Eula Jones.


He is survived by his long-time companion, Mary Vining of Greeneville, TN, his son, Jeffrey Hunter, and a grandson, J. Aaron Hampton, both of Johnson City, TN. In addition, he is survived by his mother, Icey B. Jones; his siblings, Mary (Charles) Carmon, Washington, DC, Rolax (Barbara) Jones, Rogersville, TN, Annie (Paul) London, Waldorf, MD, Clara (Alvin) Lewis, Clinton, MD, Jerry (Vivian) Jones, Ypsilanti, MI, James Jones, Silver Spring, MD, David (Dwanna) Jones and Bobby Jones, both of Kingsport, TN. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, and nephews.


Graveside services for Mr. Eddie Jones will be conducted Tuesday, November 17, 2020, at 2:00 pm from The VA National Cemetery, Mt. Home, TN. Rev. Dr. Kenneth Calvert officiating. Due to COVID-19, those in

attendance must wear a mask and practice social distancing.
