Amos "Dune" Phillips, Jr., 52, departed this life Sunday, May 26, 2019, at his home. He was preceded in death by his loving mother, Mary Carpenter and his father, Amos Phillips, Sr.
Amos "Dune" Phillips, Jr. graduated from Dobyns-Bennet High School in 1985. He lived his life for his family and friends, always offering to help someone out. He was a jack of all trades. Dune managed an apartment complex in Florida for several years. Dune knew how to fix anything he got his hands on. He worked on heat pumps, small and large motors, and probably fixed half the cars in the downtown Kingsport area. Dune was known for “running” Kingsport in the 1990s and running his mouth in the 2000s. If you knew Dune you knew he had a story to tell. A great brother, friend, grandfather, and uncle he was loved by many, and respected by all who knew him. Dunes passing is a great loss to us all.
To mourn his passing he leaves behind his children; Kaquana Bell, Mekos Bell, Amos Bell, Mr. and Mrs. Christopher Bell, Payton Cothran, Abigail Cothran; and Dunes grandchildren whom he loved dearly. Dune also leaves behind his siblings; Whalen "Marty" Carpenter, Megale Phillips, LaVera Phillips, DeAndrade "Dee" Phillips, Jeff Bixler, Darin Davis, Dunes nephews, and nieces who carried a special place in Dunes heart also; as well as a special friend and partner, Tracy Quillen.
