Mr. Robert Lewis Bunche

Mr. Robert Lewis Bunche, 83, departed this life on May 6, 2019, and went home to be with the Lord following a brief illness. Mr. Bunche, was born in North Carolina, on May 12, 1935.

He attended Douglas and Slater High Schools in the Bristol area.

Robert Bunche served in the U.S. Air Force, from July 14, 1954, until May 11, 1962. He served as a radar technician, in the mechanic division. He received the National Service Medal, good conduct medal, and many other recommendations.

Following his departure from the Air Force, he went to work for the United Telephone Systems, where he retired from after 30 years.

Robert was a member of Disabled Veterans of America, Honor Guard, Chapter 40 Bristol, Tennessee.

Robert Bunche was a faithful member of Lee Street Baptist Church, where he served as Deacon and Treasurer for 35 years. He enjoyed singing with the Sanctuary Choir of Lee Street and the Tri-Cities Mass Choir.

Robert Bunche was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Marie Bunche; father, Leroy Bunche; mother, Mary Shazor; grandparents, Benton, and Katie Grimes Lee; sister, Betty Jean Bunche; nephew, Jerry Lee Bunche; and niece, Charlotte Ruth Wilson.

To mourn his passing Robert leaves a host of nieces and nephews, as well as a very devoted special friend, Mrs. Clara Bristol of Abingdon, VA.

Services will be conducted Saturday, May 11, 2019, at 1:00 pm from Lee St. Baptist Church,1 Mary St. Bristol, VA. Dr. W.A. Johnson, officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm until the hour of service. Interment will follow at Mt. View Cemetery, Bristol, VA.
