Mr. William Richard Clark

 

Mr. William Richard Clark, eighty years old, departed this life on Friday, January 25, 2019, at  Ballad Holston Valley Medical Center and went peacefully to his Heavenly Home after an extended illness. He was born on April 21, 1938 in Kingsport, TN to the union of the late James H. and Lenora Farnsworth Clark, Sr. He was affectionately known as “Cupcakes”, “Pops”, “Daddy”, “Double Naught,” and “Granddaddy” to the numerous nieces, nephews, “children,” “grandchildren” and friends.

 

William graduated from Douglass High School. He was a member of Central Baptist Church and served on numerous committees until his health prevented him to continue. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Baumholder, Germany. He retired from Willamette Paper Company. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge I.B.P.O.E., serving locally, regionally and nationally.

 

Richard was a “family man” and helped any family member or friend who was in need. He was always willing to go the extra mile for family and friends. He loved children and was happiest when children were in his home. His wife’s family referred to him as “The Thinker.” 

 

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by sisters: Margurette Clark, Jenny Ruth Clark, Rosa Lee LeFlore, Ruth Turner, and Mary Rutledge; brothers: James H. Clark, Jr. and Arthur Clark; brothers-in-law: Henderson LeFlore, Luther Graves, James Turner, and Cleveland Rutledge.

 

Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 58 years Constance “Connie” Clark of Kingsport, TN; one son, Gregory (Janie) Cornett of Kingsport, TN; three daughters, Sonya Clark of Church Hill, TN, Brenda Clark of Kingsport, TN and Carmen Clark of Gray TN; two granddaughters, Kayla Clark of Kingsport, TN, and Paris Cornett of Nashville, TN; step-granddaughter, Tara Epperson of Atlanta, GA; step-grandson, Eric Cornett of Kingsport, TN; two step great grandchildren, Riley Fout-Cornett and Shepherd Enlow; three sisters, Frances Graves of Kingsport, TN, Martha Davis of Dallas, TX and Barbara Ann Smith of Spartanburg, SC; one brother, Steven (Peggy) Machen of Kingsport, TN; four sisters-in-law, Jean Clark of Kingsport, TN, Brenda Rouse of Kingsport, TN, Lolita (Hybrey) Payton of Hampton, VA and Ethel (Calvin) Wilson of Philadelphia, PA; brothers-in-law, Thomas (Teresa) Brown of Bristol, TN, Bobby Lee of Philadelphia, PA and George Hall of Philadelphia, PA; a special godson, Renaldo Goodwin of Kingsport, TN; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends as well as several “adopted “children and grandchildren. Special nieces who frequently visited William, Georgette McDonald and Doris Thomas from Mississippi, Audrey “Penny” and Tiffany Lollar from Greeneville, TN;  Annette LeFlore from Alabama who spent time caring for William and his wife; and special cousins, Delois (Darrell) Ransom, Whittney and LaDarrell Ransom.

 

The family would like to thank  Dr. Warren Jones, his primary care physician, also the James H. Quillen Veterans Center (Dr. Elena Augus, Dr. Huddleston, Terry Nelms, N.P., Ruth Quejada, R.N., and Michael, O.T., for taking excellent care of William over the years. Also special thanks to the home care agencies as well as the nurses and PCT’s of the 3rd floor, Wilcox Hall at Ballad Holston Valley Medical Center.

 

A celebration of life service will be conducted Saturday February 2, 2019 from Central Baptist Church at 1:30 pm. The family will receive friends from 12 pm until the hour of service.
