Ms. Mary Kathryn Evans

Mary Kathryn Evans, 65, departed this life and went to her heavenly home on Monday, December 4, 2017 after a courageous battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML).

Kathy was born in Kingsport, TN, March 28, 1952 one of seven children of William and Julia Evans.

Kathy retired from Quebecor World (Kingsport Press) after 28 years of service. She then began her second career at Kingsport Child Development Center (KCDC) as a Teacher. At KCDC Kathy impacted the lives of many children and their families for over 10 years before her retirement this past May.

Kathy was a faithful and dedicated member of Central Baptist Church (CBC), Kingsport. Kathy was involved with practically every ministry at CBC including: Chair of The Trustee Ministry, Budget and Finance Committee, Choir, Missions, Mana Meal, AMC Ministry, Decorating Committee, Wednesday night youth meals, and Sunday School. Outside of her church activities Kathy was an active member of the Douglas Alumni Association as well as a community volunteer with H.O.P.E. (Help Our Potential Evolve) and New Vision Youth groups. Kathy volunteered in the community each and every time the need arose. She was a willing, dependable, and enthusiastic servant in every aspect of her life and will be remembered as such.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Ricky (2004) and Carl (2008).

To cherish her memory she leaves her son, Michael Kevin Evans Concord, NC; one sister, Gail Evans-Harris (John) Kingsport, TN; three brothers, William Earl Evans, Kansas City, MO, Dale Evans (Marie), Norfolk, VA and John Evans, Kingsport, TN; three grandchildren, Amani Khaliah Brice, Johnson City, TN, Kaden Angles Evans, and Samantha Garcia, Concord, NC; as well as a host of nieces and nephews including Sierra Evans, her primary care taker, Kingsport, TN; a special daughter, Patrica Ferguson, Kingsport, TN; and her uncle Jack and Betsy Pierce, Kingsport, TN. Kathy was especially loved by all that knew her and she will be greatly missed by family and friends alike.

Celebration of life services for Mary Evans will be conducted Saturday, December 9, 2017 from Central Baptist Church at 2:00 pm. The family will receive friends from noon until 1:30 pm. Pastor Perry Stuckey will be officiating. The burial will follow the service at Historical Pierce Chapel AME Church Cemetery.
