Mr. Clyde E. Collins, Jr.

 

Mr. Clyde E. Collins, Jr., age 71, of Bristol, TN, joined his parents to be with God on Tuesday, January 5, 2016, after a lengthy illness. He was born on November 14, 1944, to Reverend Clyde E. Collins, Sr., and Mrs. Mary Cynthia Hendricks Collins.

Mr. Collins was a faithful member of John Wesley United Methodist Church and was the organist until his illness no longer allowed him to give us those melodious sounds form the organ. He attended Lincoln Elementary School, Slater School, and East Tennessee State University. He was employed by the United States Forest Service as a counselor and supervisor until he retired in 2001 from Pine Knott, KY. He was given the title of Kentucky Colonel by the Governor of Kentucky. While working in Kentucky as a supervisor, he accompanied many to fight forest fires.

After his return to Bristol, he was a faithful church worker as he attended Bible Study, served with the United Methodist Men, helped with Bible School, and volunteered to play the organ for our John Wesley Choir, and when he played for our Chancel Choir, he played for a church in Pine Knott, Kentucky on alternating Sundays. He remained active in using his talents for God.

He was preceded in death by his parents Reverend Clyde Collins, Sr. and Mrs. Mary C. Collins; paternal grandmother, Mrs. Bunar Guthrie; aunts, Mrs. Lina McCord, and Mrs. Louise Wilson; and uncles, Mr. Gallie Hendricks, and Mr. Wilbur Hendricks.

Mr. Collins is survived by his sister Mrs. Mary Bunella Brown (Richard); a niece Mrs. Jenai Hayes (Millard III); a great nephew, Mr. Millard Hayes IV; several cousins; and a host of friends. Special friends, Mr. & Mrs. Harold Hansford, Dr. & Mrs. Douglass Green, Mr. Jackson Mead, and members of John Wesley Choir.

The family wishes to thank the many faithful friend who offered prayers, visits, and treats to Clyde during his illness. The staff at Cambridge for their concerns and those who continued to help during his illness.The family wishes to thank the many faithful friend and Cambridge Care Staff who offered prayers, visits, and treats to Clyde during his illness. The family also wishes to extend gratitude to all for their support during this time of bereavement.

 

 

Going home service for Mr. Collins will be held Saturday, January 9, 2016, at John Wesley United Methodist Church, 311 Lee St. Bristol, VA, at 11:30am with Rev. Robert Kariuki presiding. The family will receive friends from 11:00am until the time of service.
