Joseph Anderson, born April 29, 1926, departed this life on Thursday June 9, 2016, at the age of 90. He was a proud veteran of the Armed services, having served in the United States Navy during the Korean War, enlisted in the Army, and retired from the Airforce. After his service, he moved to Bristol and supported a family until retiring from from Reynolds Metals Company. He actively volunteered for the Disabled Veterans of America and was a member of Harris Anderson AME Zion Church, Bristol VA.
He was a loving friend and family member who will be greatly missed by his community and fondly remembered by all those whose lives he touched.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Louise Anderson, son Robert Lee, his stepson Herman Rosenboro, his father and mother, John and Janie Anderson, his 6 sisters and 3 brothers.
He leaves behind his wife, Henrietta Anderson, and four children, Iris McMillan (Franklin), James Edward Lee (Gail), Roberta McCurdy (Charlie, deceased), and Lucetta Brown; and four step children, Avis Bizzell, Joe Bryant , Tommy Bryant, and Michelle Bernard. He is also survived by two brothers, Jimmie Anderson (Vanessa) and Lawrence Anderson, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and a great-great grandchild, nieces, nephews, and a host of relatives and friends. He will be especially missed by three special friends, James, Jackson, and Micheal Meade, and Robert Bunche. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday June 15, 2016 at 12:00pm from the Lee St. Baptist Church, Pastor Dr. W.A.Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00am until the hour of service. Burial will follow at Mt. View Cemetery, Bristol Va.
