Mr. Henry Taylor

Henry Taylor departed this life Tuesday January 30, 2018 at his residence after a brief illness. He was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Kingsport, TN and worked as a brick mason. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thurman and Elma Taylor, and one brother, Raymond Taylor. Suvivors include his wife, Mary Ann Taylor; two children, GiGi Bates and Thurman Bates; and two sisters, Hattie Perine, and Barbara Thomas.

Ms. Diana Louise Hogans

Diana Louise Hogans, 60, of Midway Park, North Carolina, died on November 21, 2017. She was born in Kingsport, Tennessee and graduated from Dobyns-Bennet High School in 1975. Her interests included gardening, baking, and cooking. In addition to working full-time and raising her two children, she devoted much of her time throughout her life to caring for elderly neighbors. She was preceded in death by her father, Mr. William H. Hoard; her mother, Mrs. Gladys C. Hoard; her sister, Ms. Sandra M. Hoard; paternal grandparents, Rev. William H. and Nellie B. Mrs. Frances A. Hunt

Mrs. Frances A. (Mama Fran) Hunt, 100, 219 Jefferson Drive, walked The Stairway to Heaven with her family near by Friday morning January 26, 2018 after a lengthy illness. Frances at an early age attended Tate's Chapel U.M. Church, and was a faithful member of John Wesly U.M. Church until her illness. Mrs. Hunt was born in Greeneville,TN August 3, 1917 to Carl and Bertha Alums. Mrs. Hunt was proceeded in death by her parents, Carl and Bertha Alums; children, Bertha, Carolyn and Lemuel Stokley; sister Evelyn Elder; and brothers, Charles, James and Robert Alums. Frances Gruber, 85, of Bluff City, a beloved mother and grandmother, died Tuesday January 16, 2018 at Bristol Regional Medical Center, surrounded by family. She was born in Pleasantville, NJ on March 21, 1932, the daughter of Curtis and Mary Palmer. Frances grew up in Southern New Jersey but was a longtime resident of Virginia Beach, VA. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Earnest W. Gruber. Hazel Irene Huff Elder, 102 departed this life Thursday January 11, 2018. Born September 6, 1915 to Dr. James S. Anderson and Mary Elizabeth Bowman in Chattanooga, TN, she attended school in Lenoir City, TN and the Tan Modeling School in Chicago, IL. Hazel was married to the late Edward J. Huff for fifty years, until his death in 1984. From this union they had seven children. In 1988 Hazel married the late Isom Elder, until his death in 1998. He bought to this union two children. Hazel was a member of Friendship Baptist Church for more than forty years. She then moved to Kingsport, TN and joined Shiloh Baptist Church where she was a faithful member for over twenty-five years. Charles Allen Shade, 76, affectionately known as “Shady” and “Speedy”, departed this life Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Wexford House in Kingsport, TN. Charles was born December 5th 1941 in Jonesbourgh Tenn. He was was a dedicated and faithful worker, as well as a loving father and brother. He never met a stranger; everyone was his friend. Charmie Gay Carter Horton departed this life on January 2, 2018, daughter of the late Mary Elizabeth and Charles Carter. Charmie was born in the old city of Blacksburg, Virginia. Her three brothers, Herbert (H. B.) Carter, Wilfred H. Carter and William “Piggy” Carter preceded her in death.
